Europe's 'big clubs' want to ringfence Champions League places
Sorry if already done but not seen this on here and is significant with the likes of us and Leicester stirring things up at the top of the league:

Let then have their 'Super League'.

Arsenal fans(for example) will soon get bored when they've played Bayern(for example) for the 8th time in three yrs and not had a local derby..

They'll soon come crawling back asking to re-join the Prem - fuck 'em.

Fuck me, whats the point of competition in sport if this sort of thing is allowed, i can see were this is leading, and thats this European super league idea, all the big clubs together so they dont have to slum it at smaller stadiums or risk injury against what they see as inferior teams.

Re: Europe's 'big clubs' want to ringfence Champions League places
Here's a better idea- why don't the 19 richest clubs become the global 'brands' they think they are, sell their grounds, fuck off to play an itinerant league in China, the rest of the far east and the US and then they get all the money they generate. Then European football can get back to what it was - champions against champions and cup winners against cup winners and one for the leftovers but back to knockouts and no more boring leagues.

Haha!

So a few of the bigger clubs miss out on the Champions League for a couple of seasons and now they are talking about 'guarantees' and new rules? There's a surprise.

They might as well just write them a cheque each year, no need for all this sport and competition lark then.

It won't matter how much ManU spunk. They are slowly going back to the way they were back in the 70/80's. Don't think the media and the plastic support have realised that yet.!

Re: Europe's 'big clubs' want to ringfence Champions League places
Obvious and fairest solution here is to guarantee Champions League football to the 19 richest (i.e. most lucrative) clubs in Europe and then go back to league positions on a local level to identify the rest.

That would be fortunate for the club at number 19, but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

Re: Europe's 'big clubs' want to ringfence Champions League places
They have been making the rules for the benefit of the big clubs for years.

1. Having 4 teams qualify for Europe guarantees regular qualification for the big teams.

2. Having three subs and a big bench means the biggest clubs can be consistent even when the get injuries to their first choice.

3. Keeping the home gate is another benefit that helps the rich stay rich at the expense of the poor.

4. TV money is another advantage for the already wealthy.

5.Constant media exposure of big team issues increases the interest in bigger teams.

Apart from Scudamore blatantly saying he wants Man. Utd. to be successful, the people from Europe even suggesting ring fencing European places for the wealthiest clubs apart from being distasteful is but another step in the feeding frenzy of the football gravy train.

Fuck them off out of domestic competitions and let them piss off and play all their games in Europe.

The wage "cap" only applies to the money you can spend from the PL pool money (prize & TV rights), clubs can spend over that from the money they earn from other revenue streams which is a massive amount of money for the likes of Man Utd.

I was shocked when I arrived in Bangkok to see Leicester City banded about everywhere. Saw the same in Germany as a VfL Bochum game; they like Leicester there too 😐

Simply because Man Utd generate so much money outside the PL pool money.

Re: Europe's 'big clubs' want to ringfence Champions League places
They'll be more desperate now because of not being allowed to make massive losses

Chelsea and Man U surely won't be blue to just buy their way back into the champions league, regardless of their spending power, due to FFP and also the limits on loss making, which will be harder to avoid without champions legume income.

Though quite how Man U have spent the money they have in the last 2 seasons be brought in the players they have without breaching either of these is beyond me - unless wellbeck, di Maria and Hernandez were on 200k a week each, their incoming wages seem to massively outweigh what they got shot of

Pile of crap though, isn't it really?

Divisions One to Four, worked just fine for fans

It's just marketing, branding, monetising balls. Literally.

The next thing will be Premiership without relegation . And the owners will want the right to sel the franchise and move on too.

It was a breakaway by the "big 5" clubs from the FL as the running was amateur and with the backing of the FA they believed they could get better TV deals and split the money between the 20 clubs instead of the whole league

They were right.

Pub Bigot 6:06 Fri Feb 5
Re: Europe's 'big clubs' want to ringfence Champions League places
That TV deal is for three years isn't it? So while our league and others are popular, I agree the status quo will remain. If it is ever in decline, that's when either the Scottish duo will be invited down, or a new league system will be sort.

The Premier League is all I've ever know. When it was formed, what was the justification for adding another league above the football league?
